The Victorian Era*

The Victorian period that was around like 1837 to 1901. This era has like a classical feel to it! During this time queen Victoria ruled. Britain, was the most powerful nation.
Charles Lyell and Charles Darwn began examining the man and the world, about science and history, finally about religion and philosophy. The reason i say finally about religion, because i was wondering when that topic would come about in their lives.
Alot of legal changes in women's right to their own property like marriage, the right to divorce, and the right to fight for custody of their children if they got seperated. On the internet they say that this era was " a period of peace & economic way of life". But i also read that it was wars all the time so it makes me think where's the peace at?
After reviewing this time period i really can't say what went on. From what notes I have i think it was a period when people wanted money, also happiness, to find what the earth has to offer. Over all i think that this era was a time for discovery! For normal people doing this time i think that they had to be very wealthy to get by or to have a good time.

Porphyria's Lover

The rain set early in to-night,The sullen wind was soon awake,It tore the elm-tops down for spite,And did its worst to vex the lake:I listened with heart fit to break. When glided in Porphyria; straightShe shut the cold out and the storm,And kneeled and made the cheerless grateBlaze up, and all the cottage warm;Which done, she rose, and from her formWithdrew the dripping cloak and shawl,And laid her soiled gloves by, untiedHer hat and let the damp hair fall,And, last, she sat down by my sideAnd called me. When no voice replied,She put my arm about her waist,And made her smooth white shoulder bare,And all her yellow hair displaced,And, stooping, made my cheek lie there,And spread, o'er all, her yellow hair,Murmuring how she loved me---sheToo weak, for all her heart's endeavour,To set its struggling passion freeFrom pride, and vainer ties dissever,And give herself to me for ever. But passion sometimes would prevail,Nor could to-night's gay feast restrainA sudden thought of one so paleFor love of her, and all in vain:So, she was come through wind and rain.Be sure I looked up at her eyesHappy and proud; at last I knewPorphyria worshipped me; surpriseMade my heart swell, and still it grewWhile I debated what to do.That moment she was mine, mine, fair,Perfectly pure and good: I foundA thing to do, and all her hairIn one long yellow string I woundThree times her little throat around,And strangled her. No pain felt she;I am quite sure she felt no pain.As a shut bud that holds a bee,I warily oped her lids: againLaughed the blue eyes without a stain. And I untightened next the tressAbout her neck; her cheek once moreBlushed bright beneath my burning kiss:I propped her head up as before,Only, this time my shoulder boreHer head, which droops upon it still:The smiling rosy little head,So glad it has its utmost will,That all it scorned at once is fled,And I, its love, am gained instead!Porphyria's love: she guessed not howHer darling one wish would be heard. And thus we sit together now,And all night long we have not stirred,And yet God has not said a word! Robert Browning
* Before reading i was warned that he was crazy! and now after reading i see that he really is. I think if i didnt know that i would have picked it up. The thing that i got from this poem is that this woman who he's in love with come to visit or something and he's happy to see her, but then next thing you know he's talking about killing her! I think it kind of strange i really wished i knew what he was getting at.

"I Said to Love"

I said to Love, "It is not now as in old days When men adored thee and thy ways All else above; Named thee the Boy, the Bright, the One Who spread a heaven beneath the sun," I said to Love. I said to him, "We now know more of thee than then; We were but weak in judgment when, With hearts abrim, We clamoured thee that thou would'st please Inflict on us thine agonies," I said to him. I said to Love, "Thou art not young, thou art not fair, No faery darts, no cherub air, Nor swan, nor dove Are thine; but features pitiless, And iron daggers of distress," I said to Love. "Depart then, Love! . . . - Man's race shall end, dost threaten thou? The age to come the man of now Know nothing of? - We fear not such a threat from thee; We are too old in apathy! Mankind shall cease.--So let it be," I said to Love. Thomas Hardy
* To me in this poem i think Thomas Hardy is talking to God about leaving the earth to go to heaven, because he keeps going on about age and how we get old. It also seems as if he has a fear of death or getting old. The poem makes my min wonders but it's ok.

Growing Old

What is it to grow old?Is it to lose the glory of the form,The lustre of the eye?Is it for beauty to forego her wreath?Yes, but not for this alone. Is it to feel our strength -Not our bloom only, but our strength -decay?Is it to feel each limbGrow stiffer, every function less exact,Each nerve more weakly strung?Yes, this, and more! but not,Ah, 'tis not what in youth we dreamed 'twould be!'Tis not to have our lifeMellowed and softened as with sunset-glow,A golden day's decline!'Tis not to see the worldAs from a height, with rapt prophetic eyes,And heart profoundly stirred; And weep, and feel the fulness of the past,The years that are no more!It is to spend long daysAnd not once feel that we were ever young. It is to add, immuredIn the hot prison of the present, monthTo month with weary pain.It is to suffer this,And feel but half, and feebly, what we feel:Deep in our hidden heartFesters the dull remembrance of a change,But no emotion -none.It is -last stage of all -When we are frozen up within, and quiteThe phantom of ourselves,To hear the world applaud the hollow ghostWhich blamed the living man. Matthew Arnold
* Like wow i really needed to see this poem! To be honest i had a fear of being old or getting old. The main things i didn't want to leave was my beauty, & strenght you know like stupid simple; things. You can say that i used to be affraid of change!, but now i love change, change is good!
The big difference between Victorian and the Romantic era is the way of life. During the Victorian era , some people were happy and others were about money or trying to figure out why things happen. During the Romantic era; wow i really loved it!!! Almost everyone was into art and expressing what they felt in a positive way. Like i said i really think they were some what like hippies. Even if i did my project at the last moment i really liked it!

Romantic Era*

The Romantic Period

People were more free. When this happend beauty and art made the world more of an artistic world. People also tried to make life easier, by just being them and not worrying so much this reminds me of hippies!

In 1886 the statue of liberty was shown. The statue of liberty was a gift from the french. It was located at Bedloes island ( later liberty island) in New York Harbor. Auguste Batholdi designed it with help from Gustave Eiffle. In 1880 the Eiffle Tower was completed. It's located in Chanp de Mars, Paris. It was built by Gustave Eiffel; and today it has two restaurants in it. People didnt have simple mind sets. This era showed that people thought outside of the box rather then staying normal. I thought this was a very fun era.

After reading the events i really thought that so many great things were happening. People seem to show a new way of life by expressing the way they felt and seen things through art. When you say "normal" it makes my mind wonder???I mean i can't really say...Life for normal people may have just been fine because they didn't have much to worry about. just like the other person.

A Widow Bird Sate Mourning For Her Love

A widow bird sate mourning for her LoveUpon a wintry bough; The frozen wind crept on above,The freezing stream below. There was no leaf upon the forest bare,No flower upon the ground,And little motion in the airExcept the mill-wheel's sound. Percy Bysshe Shelley
*Here he is saying that it is winter time, and all the beautiful things are gone; but ther is still love.

Bright Star

Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art-- Not in lone splendour hung aloft the nightAnd watching, with eternal lids apart,Like nature's patient, sleepless Eremite,The moving waters at their priestlike taskOf pure ablution round earth's human shores,Or gazing on the new soft-fallen maskOf snow upon the mountains and the moors--No--yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,Pillow'd upon my fair love's ripening breast,To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,And so live ever--or else swoon to death. John Keats
* In this poem he is saying that he wish he was a star. During this time people really thought outside of the box and when you do that, you make other things come to life! This poem really had me going and by me looking at two opinions i understood that, when reading any poem you can't just stay in a simple mind set.

THE SICK ROSE
by: William Blake (1757-1827)
ROSE, thou art sick!
The invisible worm,
That flies in the night,
In the howling storm,

Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy;
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.

*This poem is about innocence being corrupted... it is about lust... evil deeds. That's what i get from it i think i'm right! and i really like this poem!

The Restoration

The Bloodless Revolution
During this time the protestants didn't want a king any more, well a Catholic king. They thought he was going to die out. Then the king had another son and when he had another son they were lilke o no! not another Catholic leader. So the protestants ran him out so that he couldn't rule anymore. Instead of beheading him or having a war they just kicked him out.
I think this is pretty funny, but it was a wonderful idea because no one had to die for a change!

*satire*

Satire means to make jokes, I asked Brittany to help me understand and, she said like " it's when jokes are being told about real life situations" and now i understand! My example is Family Guy. I look at that show all the time. . and they pick at things so much oin there , but it's like real life situations. Even if it's sad they found something funny out of the whole thing.

The Modest Proposal*

At first i thought he was serious. And then he went on about how they liked eatting kids. I thought that was very sick, but he was saying that they treat the poor very bad, anyways so they should just go ahead and eat them as if they were somehting to eat anyways. I mean if you think about it that kind of stuff still goes on today. People get treated wrong when everyone should be treated equal no matter what.

The Diary Of Samuel Pepys*

I decided to read The Diary of Samuel Pepys, because i thought that it would be easy! The first entry i decided to read is when he wrote about what happend on July 11th, 1664 A Bad Night. The the heading really got me to want to read it. What happens on the night of July the 11th, Samuel thought that some thieves were in his house. At first i thought he was sick " to bed. And there fell into a most mighty sweat in the night" By Samuel saying this i thought he was a little under the weather. When he notice that it wasn't some thieves , he found out that it was only a dog. " it was only a dog wants a lodging and so made a noise". So by him being disturbed at the moment it effected his sleep for the rest of the night.

I also decided to read September 2,1666 The First Day of the Great Fire of London. The geat fire was a major problem. It happend on sunday Sep the 2nd to Wednesday Sep the 5th 1666. The fire went through the city of London. Samuel was very shooked by what was going on " So down, with my heart full of trouble". This let me know that he was very upset and scared about the situatuation. So many things went on that day, houses were getting burnt down, churches too! Samuel order but no one would listen to him, he tried to give order so he prayed to God for guidence." Lord, what can I do? I am spent. People will not obey me. I have been pulling down houses. but the fire overtakes us faster then we can do it." So this day, bet the people thought they were in hell.

During this time i think the most important thing to people was to live everyday like it's your last. This was a very painful era at the same time. I bet it showed how you can have something one min and the next min its gone. This event really reminds me of huricane Katrina.... even if i wasnt in their shoes i also knew that it had to be hard for the ones that had to leave family & friends behind not knowing if they were dead or alive. But they had good spirits about the whole thing even if the situation was breath taking they came together and held their heads up high and moved on with their life.

Boxing log!!! 7hrs

Even if i have only 7hrs, it's better then nothing! I'm very thankful that Ive found someone, who would take time out to help me pass my class! My coach name is Chris. Chris is a UGA student here in Athens Ga. My friend Alie introduced him to me. Chris is very cool. I can't really recall the the day Chris came to Classic City to see me, but it was in the month of October! He stayed for an hour and a few min, and we went over a few things!, like why did i need him to help me and what would he be teaching me. He signed my project packet. Somehting that i forgot to do many times when i ran across two wonderful trainers!
The next time me and Chris decided to box together something came up or my dad would say i told him too late! so for weeks i was not getting any time with him at all. Then the holidays came around and he's not from Athens sooo yes he had to leave town! so i was like crap i thought that i had lost him like the other two, but by him being friends with Alie i would always see him around. I really thank God that i didnt have to because he called me and was like were going to meet on Friday i was like yaye!!! Then like he had this test and like he really wanted to study so i was like sure don't let me stop you! Then he called me back and was like Jessica i'm not the type of guy to break a promise so he offered to pick me up from work at 2pm so that we could do what we had to do on Friday. I was sooo happy that he was being very grown up about it! So he did as he said and he was out there at two. I was sooo happy! I brought my sweat pants, pumas, and hair band! it was on! Before we went to his house we went to a few places like some health food store and he bought him a few things! O yeah I wasnt the only one with him he had a friend with him and our friend Alie. We all had a wonderful time! We went to Rasin Kane because he wanted ketchup and since he's my coach he made me go get it ha ha ha! i wasn't forced it was very funny! So we dropped his friend off at his house then we, went to Chris house and got started! He has a cat named Marmalaid. You know like the engalish use on their toast! I don't like cats but his cat wasn't no problem at all! it was a pretty orange and blonde cat. The colors very cute!
We went outside to exercise <> Chris had repeated this so many time we warmed up for a very long time. He caught on that i'm a retired cheerleader lol because of the way i moved! The warm ups had me sooo ready to get started! We did this warm up where you would like; press up against the wall and twist from side to side! i loved that technique it felt so good. Then we went inside and i learned how to wrap my hands before putting on my glooves that was fun and easy. Chris made me use my weakess arm and that's my left arm, but now it's very strong & i know how to use it now! We hit the bag a few times and did a few types of foot work and stance control. Since this is some waht of a new style of fighting to me i didnt always do things right! Like when you box your head must be down, me being me couldnt keep my head down, so he made me hold an apple under my chin until i got the picture. Over all that's just a few things we did look at my slide show to see full details!

The Renaissance -- Sonnets

Shakespeare uses AB,AB,CD,CD,EF,EF,GG. It's really more like A,B,A,B. They kinda connect but with Spencer I really liked his because his are easier to understand. I understand Spencer's poem, well sonnet better. Spencer sonnets would go like AB, AB, BC, BC, CD,CD,EE. Either or i understood Spencer's sonnet better. I would prefer Spencer over Shakespeare.

At the begining of Shakespeare's poem the question he asked was " shall i compare thee to a summer's day?". At the 1st part " Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? (A)
Thou art more lovely and more temperate. (B)
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, (A)
And summer's lease hath all to short a date. (B). What Shakepear is talking about in his sonnet is that. That this man is sooo beautiful that, he would always be this way because his beauty will always be read about. In Spencers sonnet he's saying that, he like's this girl and they are complete oposites, but he will always like her no matter what she say or does. But he really don't understand why this is his case and he also feels like he can compare them both to ice ans fire. Even if it seems like fire would melt ice and ice would but out fire. when it comes down to this that theroy is so not true. In Spencer's sonnet he say's " My love is like to ice, and I to fire; (A)
How comes it then that this her cold so great (B)
Is not dissolved through my so hot desire, (A)
But harder grows the more I her entreat? (B)". I really like this sonnet becuase it made me remember the days I would like a boy and they wouldn't like me in that way. Even if i knew this i would still like them no matter what. But it really is'nt like that anymore!

The first pic i decided to post reflects Spencers sonnet that I like so much. The second one was how Shakespeare was talking about a beautiful man and all and I found that man to be very beautiful in my eyes! But the way Shakespeare made like a spell or something because in the sonnet he say's something like, even if you get old people will read this over and over again and your beauty will always remain no matter what. I thought that he was trying to cast a spell or something and he kind of did because people read this sonnet over and over again.
SONNET XV = Ye tradeful merchants, that with weary toil
Ye tradeful merchants, that with weary toil (a) do seek most precious things to make your gain,(b) = He’s asking the merchants why do they travel to find things in vain.and both the Indias of their treasures spoil,(a)what needeth you to seek so far in vain?(b)
For loe my love doth in herself contain(b)all this world's riches that may far be found,(c)of Saphires, loe her eyes be saphires plain,(b)= he feels like the girl that he’s with has all the treasures. He starts comparing her eye’s and lips to two different jewels Sapphires and rubies in a very positive way.if Rubies, loe her lips be rubies sound:(c)
if Pearls, her teeth be pearls both pure and round: (c) if Ivory, her forehead ivory ween; (d)if Gold, her locks are finest gold on ground;(c)= if silver, her fair hands are silver sheen. (d) Here he’s comparing her teeth to pearl and pearl is shiny and white. He compares her forehead to ivory and ivory is milky and smooth. He also compares her hair to gold and gold is very bright and eye catching so that means she has very beautiful hair, because gold is a very beautiful element! He compares her hands to silver I really don’t know why but that’ not an ugly element neither so either or what is said about her is all positive and wonderful!
But that which fairest is, but few behold, (e) = Here he is saying that even if she is all of the above and that’s all good, he really only and truly likes her for her mind. her mind adorned with vertues manifold. (e)

I really liked this sonnet because it made me want to think. And I feel like that was one thing I was doing to much of but, either or I thought that it was wonderful. When I finally got the hang of translating what he was trying to say, it made me like it even more.

XX
1. A woman's face with nature's own hand painted, a2. Hast thou, the master mistress of my passion; b 3. A woman's gentle heart, but not acquainted a4. With shifting change, as is false women's fashion: b5. An eye more bright than theirs, less false in rolling, c6. Gilding the object whereupon it gazeth; d7. A man in hue all hues in his controlling, c8. Which steals men's eyes and women's souls amazeth. d 9. And for a woman wert thou first created; e10. Till Nature, as she wrought thee, fell a-doting, f 11. And by addition me of thee defeated, e12. By adding one thing to my purpose nothing. f 13. But since she prick'd thee out for women's pleasure, g14. Mine be thy love and thy love's use their treasure. g

When I first started reading this I thought he was really talking about a woman and like when we got down to line 7 & 8 it all turned around. See what the sonnet is really saying is that; he believes in Mother Nature and in this sonnet Shakespeare is saying that Mother Nature made this man who looks like a woman, but since Mother Nature is a woman she added a private area on to her to call him a man. I was like what in the world that was a good way to put it. Then if you look in lines 13 & 14 he says’s “13. But since she prick'd thee out for women's pleasure, g14. Mine be thy love and thy love's use their treasure. g” . Here he is saying that even if he’s a man yeah he can please the women but he will always be his lover no matter what. I’m like so against it, but he wrote this sonnet very well!

Act V of The Tragedy of Macbeth

This pic is showing lady Macbeth sleepwalking I loved this part; it was a good way to get to know how her character really was!
Scene 1 in Act V sarted off with the Doctor and the Gentlewoman. The Gentle woman reported to the Doc that lady Macbeth had been sleepwalking and saying crazy things. The Doc wanted to know what the maid meant by this, the Gentelwoman said " That, sir, which I will not report after her." I think the reason the Gentelwoman didn't tell him right off is because crazy lady Macbeth was coming around the corner with her candle talking out of her head. "Out, damned spot! Out, I say! One: two: why, then ' tis time to do't. Hell is murky. Fie, my lord, fie! A soldier, and afeard? What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our pow'r to accompt? Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him?". Lady Macbeth is finally feeling the pain, so bad that she thinks about it in her sleep. I htought this part was really good on expressing how she really is because at first I thought since she called the evil side out of her the murders wouldn't effect her at all; but look whatit's doing to her! She's actting like a looney toon. Lady Macbeth was so gone that she was also reliving the night when her husband had Banquo killed. " Wash your hands; put on your nightgown; look not so pale! I tell you yet again, Banquo's buried. He cannot come out on's grave." I guess Banquo's ghost was hunting her too,but only in her mind! Next the fights and more drama begins! Menteith say's " The English pow'r is near , led on by Malcolm, His uncle Siward and the good Macduff. Revenges burn in them; for their dear causes would to the bleeding and the grim alarm Excite the mortified man." This part i have added let me know that they was ready for war with Macbeth. I think this a very good story either way it goes. even if i already know whats going to happen, i find myself wanting to know more it's that good! On the other hand Macbeth is still trying to play the i'm Mr Untouchable role and he really sucks at this. At first i was on his side, but now he's actting and getting to comfty. I feel like since the begining when he felt like he just had to make his future come true so quick he should have beeen trying to make sure that he wouldnt get killed! but nooo he thinks he's ok now and can't nothing harm him at all so; this time he dosen't work his self all up to do anything. Macbeth say's " I have almost forgot the taste of fears: The time has been, my senses would have cooled To hear a night-shriek, and my fell of hair would at a dismal treatise rouse and stir As life were in't. I have supped full with horrors. Direness, familiar to my slaughterous thoughts, Cannot once start me." As you can see Macbeth has the big head. Sorry to bust his bubble but his rain is like now over. In Act 4 the wicth god told him that " Macbeth shall never vanquished be until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill shall come against him." Macbeth didnt think that this would happen but little did he know that this would happen sooner then he thought.A messenger came to him and told him " As I did stand my watch upon the hill, I looked toward Birnam, and anon, methought, The wood began to move". Ha-ha wow i bet he tasted fear when heard that! Macbeth answers back with " Fear not, till Birnam Wood Do come to Dunsinane" He says alot more even if he knows that something is going wrong he still is stuck on the fact that he thinks that he can't be touched. So yeah he stiil is keeping his cool a little then a little boy decided to try him 1st that failed; and thinks since that failed Macbeth feels as if " for none of woman born shall harm him" That's what the witch god told him. Little did he know that Macduff wasn't born from his mother's whomb!!! This brought Macbeth back to earth when Macduff say's " Despair thy charm, And let the angel whom thou still has served Tell thee, Macduff was from his mother's womb Untimely ripped" I bet Macbeth mouth was wide open! They get into a fight and Macduff cut's off Macbeth head. Malcolm becomes king and gives a speech, and towards the end of his speech he let's everyone know that lady Macbeth took her own life" by self and violent hands Took off her life". That part hit me hard and it had me thinking, like why would she do this??? and this whole time i thougth she had no heart but she did Malcolm and his people a favor ha-ha i guess she did have a heart.

Act IV of Shakespeare The Tragedy of Macbeth

Act four start's with the three withches. They feel as if something is about to happen so they start chatting spells and stuff to call on their God Hecate. He lets them know that Mcbeth is on his way to see them. What the Sprit or God tells them is true Macbeth shows up and wants to know his future! Hecate say's " Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Beware Macduff! Beware the Thane of Fife. Dimiss me: enough. At this point Macbeth thinks that everything is turing for the good but little do he know, and then Hecate say's " Be bloddy, bold and resolute! Laugh to scorn The pow'r of man, for none of woman born Shall harm Macbeth." When the spirit tells him this he act as if he's sitting on a high horse and can't get knocked down. So on and on the spirit say's alot of things to him and it makes him feel untouchable! Then he still gets told the part about how there would be kings after him no matter what. He even says it to his self. " Thou art too like the spirit of Banquo. Down! Thy crown does sear mine eyelida. And thy hair, Thou other gold-bound brow, is like the first. A third is like the former. Filthy hags! why do you show me this? A fourth! Sart, eyes! what, will the line strecth out to th' crack of doom? Another yet! A seventh! I'll see no more. And yet the eight appears, who bears a glass which shows me many more. etc" Then he say's "Horrible sight! Now I see' tis true; For the blood-boltered Banquo smiles upon me, And points at them for his. What, is this so?". By this time Macbeth is like but you just told me that i will be alright. The only thing that witches had to say is First Witch " Ay, sir , all this is so. But why Stands Macbeth thus amazedly? Come, sisters, cheer we up his sprites, And show the best of our delights: I'll charm the air to give a sound , while you perform your antic round, That this great king may kindly say Our duties did his welcome pay". His welcome payed alright. This sent Macbeth on another dummy mission, he decided to be stupid again by saying to his self again " The castle of Macduff I will surprise Seize upon Fife; give to th' sword His wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls That deed I'll do before this purpose cool: But no more sights!- Where are these gentlemen? Come, bring me where they are." O my i was like he's went mad, naw he just got the big head thinking that if kills off Macduffs family everything will be all good for him. Now i'm on lady Macduff she thinks her husband is a coward because he ran off, only if she knew. She tells her child " Sirrah, your fathers dead: And what will you do now? How will you live?" She's talking to her son and telling him that his father is dead, but he really isn't. In the scene with lady Macduff and her son; lady Macduff makes a good point she say's "Every one that does so is a traitor, and must be hanged." Then the son says "Then the liars and swearers are fools; for there are liars and swearers enow to beat the honest men and hang up them." Lady Macduff really hit some good points in her scene. Like how the people that do good always get treated bad. In this play that is sooo true! So what Macbeth has done , is decided to contact the Murderer again to do his dirty deed the Murderer kills Macduffs family so the deed was done! Ross tells Macduff that " your wife and babes savagely slaughtered" and he adds and say"To add the death of you". Macduff is angry about this. I mean who wouldnt be??? Malcolm comes out and say to Ross and Macduff " Be comfororted. Let's make us med' cines of our great revenge, To cure this deadly grief. With out a doubt no one has a problem with going to get revenge on Macbeth; so Malcolm say's " This time goes manly. Come, go we to the king. Our power is ready Our lack is nothing but our leave. Macbeth is ripe for shaking , and the pow'rs above Put on their instruments. Receive what cheer you may. The night is long that never finds the day". When Malcolm said this I alredy knew that they wanted revenge on Macbeth, and wasn't nothing stoping them!

Act III of Shakespeare The Tragedy of Macbeth

Act III is where Macbeth really go dumb with all the crap he's putting his self into. He's really king, having dinners and all, but before this dinner him and his friend Banquo chat a little. Macbeths head is so cloudy that while Banqou is thinking that he's having a friendly conversation with a friend, little do he know that he's only digging his own grave, sad, sad! But he let's Macbeth know that he's going to be riding threw the woods before he comes to the dinner party ( where Macbeth act's like a Donkey ha-ha), because of Banquo. Before i get into that Macbeth uses the fact that he knows Banquo is going to be in the woods to make up a murder plan and he decides to hire some murderers. The murderers really have no reason to do this to this man (Banquo). I guess Macbeths wife came out of him because he tried to put negative things in their heads. Macbeth say's to the two murderers "know Banquo was your enemy." By Macbeth or should i say king Macbeth ?ha-ha, trying to act like his wife they still agree to do this evil deed.
"Fair is foul, and foul is fair" The reason I repeated this is because that's the foundation of this whole play. If i didn't have that qoute in my mind i wouldn't understand this play at all , so i always remember this because it helps me understand alot. So they are having this dinner party and Macbeth ansd his wife are acting and being fake as they can. It's so easy for Lady Macbeth to act this way but Macbeth fades out a little here and there. The two murderers find Banquo in the woods but he's not alone; he has his son Fleance with him. They end up killing him nomatter what but Banquo tells his son Fleance to find out who did this to him , and then Fleance run's off. They did Banquo dirty this is what the Murderer said he did " Ay, my good lord: safe in a ditch he bides, With twenty trenched gashes on his head, The least a death to nature." This part had my mind gone I was like what he went to work on Banquo, so sad!
Ok as you can see that Macbeth has the big head but Banquo ghost is going to mess with his head ha-ha, i thought that was so funny but it scared me a little. He start's talking out of his head, and his stupid wife tries to cover it up like he doses this all the time. All of this is going on while their at the dinner, and their guest are just as blind as them they think ; that Macbeth and his wife are still hurt by the fact that the king is dead ( yeah right). So ealier before this started happening Macbeth tried to act like he didn't know Banquo wasn't going to to show up and he start's talking crap about him. So Banquo ghost shows up and Macbeth goes off the wall, he starts making himself look like a fool because he was the only one in the room that could see him. Someone at the table named Ross told the king to let it go that Bnaquo wasn't there and Macbeth say's " the table is full". He say's this because he see's Banquo's ghost. Lennox say's " here is a place reserved, sir." Macbeth say's "where?" ha-ha. I was like Macbeth is on that root that they used back then because i bet everyone is like what in the world is wrong with him??? Then Lennox say's " Here, my good lord. What is't that moves your highness?". He's asking what's wrong with him. If i was there i would have been like are you on somes roots or something? What Macbeth is seeing is that Banquo is sitting at his chair at the table and this rueins the dinner. Of course Lady Macbeth doggs him out like always for actting like he have losted his mind. Then he starts worrying about why Macduff didn't show. I think Macduff didn't show because he knows whats really going on , and want's no part of it! But him not showing up is making it worse for him in a way. Macbeth is feeling like everything is going wrong or to fast and so he want's to see the weird sisters again, but they may just feed him lies this time because he's acting; as if only his part of the furtune is going to become true. I really think that , that is a negative.

Act II of Shakespeare The Tragedy of Macbeth

This story is sooo wonderful! like in my first post i did say i liked it and it's really getting better. I didn't know that i would be so aracted to this story, but to find out that I am. In Act II things start getting heavy. Macbeth is going crazy half way loosing his mind over non sence! The reason i say this , is because Macbeth is having ilusions bout killling the king already before he even touched the man. This issue had the class like is he drunk also???

In Act II Macbeth is in a daze. "The handle toward my hand? Come let me clutch thee. Ihave thee not, and yet I see thee still Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible" What he is saying here is that he knows that he has nothing in his hands but why does his vision show that there's a knife there??? . I felt the reason he felt this way is because, by the witches tellling him his fate; it can't stop playing over in over in his head and that's why he's living out his future because he can't control his mind. If he had mind control he would be just fine!

Macbeth ends up killing the king. Of cousre he cries about it, his wife shuts him down with it'll be ok. Instead of her having hearth she shuts him down with "A foolish thought, to say a sorry sight". She'e sitting here dogging him out over some crap she should have done, if it was supposed to be so easy for him to just walk away from the crime like he just didn't kill a man. I really think she is so cold hearted, at times.

Macduff is the one who finds the king in the state that he was in (dead). Macbeth and Lady Macbeth plays as if they didnt know nothing about the death; but i'm pretty sure that Macduff felt something strange! The kings sons Malcolm & Donalbain jet because they know what the deal is! meaning by their father being killed everyone would point the finger at them and then murder them. The reasonn this would happen to them is because the town may think that they did it to become king. So they both jet to England & Irland. I thought this part was real sad, so by them leaving, the crown was handed to Macbeth. Banquo wanted to talk to Macbeth about what the weird sisters had said to them. Macbeths head is so gone that he lies to Banquo and say that he dosent think about the stuff anymore witch is so far from the truth. So by Macbeth ignoring a conversation that could have made this situation better is causing him alot of down falls.

Act 1 of Shakespeare The Tragedy of Macbeth

Act I- (all) " Fair is foul, and foul is fair. Hover through the fog and filthy air."( witches 1,2,3). That part right there set off the whole story!!! what the witches are saying is that everything that seems good is bad, and everything that is bad is good; and through the whole story this little saying that they have chanted up never leaves your mind! So by you having this thought and mind set you know that what always shines isn't a diamond.

The three witches came to Macbeth and told him his future, I mean weird stuff was already happening to him even before he run's into them. So to make it even weird they came out of nowhere saying (1st witch) " All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis!" (2nd witch) All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!' (3rd witch)" All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!" After all this crap goes down everything start making you double check every next move that Macbeth makes!

Macbeth is bewaldered by this and can't believe what he's heard! He has a friend with him while walking trough the woods; his name is Banquo. Banquo get's his future told to him also. (3rd witch) "Hail", (2nd witch) " Not so happy," yet much happier., (3rd witch) " Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none. So all hail, Macbeth and Banquo!", (1st witch) "Banquo and Macbeth, all hail!" . After this both of them are shocked, but it hits Macbeth harder then it get's to Banquo, but to be honest i have to keep my eye on him too!, because i have suspendtion about him!!!

Then Macbeth meets the king. O wow so much stuff falls in Macbeth's way with a simple stupid conversation with the king! Ok since everyone is telling Macbeth that he's going to be King but this conversation with the King just turned him to a greedy mind thinker. What i mean by this is like now he's thinking that he has to kill the Kings son Malcom to get the throne! Now why did he even get the big head on this road to his death??? When Macbeth finds out that the Kings son is going to get the throne when he dies Macbeth says to himself '' The Prince of Cumberlan! That is a step On which I must fall down, or else o'erleap, For in my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires: The eye wink at hand; yet let that be Which the eye fears, when it is done, to see." Now by him saying this i know he is thinking about commiting a muder to get where he wants to be. Speaking of where he want's to be his wife Lady Macbeth!!! mannn that lady is a mess I thought she was so inosent ha-ha not! Macbeth sends her a letter telling her of all the good ( well the bad) that has come to him! Next thing you know we're reading about her thinking about what Macbeth only say's to himself. I mean Lady Macbeth is making her self take in negative things, like sprit or demon type things to boost herself up to kill the King when he comes to visit there home! She has everything down packed about the whole situation. Then Macbeth never told her yes or no until his good side comes out, but Lady Macbeth wasn't even trying to hear that! There should have been a fourth witch because she acts like one ha-ha !

Her plan was to make everything look good ('fair is foul, and foul is fair") that saying makes your mind think about everything that goes down in this Act. So when Macbeth wanted to let the killing plan go , Lady Macbeth really showed the evil sprit side she called up! She told him " Screw your courage."!!! what in the world??? he let her make him look like a punk , but at the same time when you want to be in the lime light you'll do anything to get there like Lady Macbeth , who's making a donkey of her self , but Macbeth is going to join the stupid train with the looney!!! she may be some kin to King Henry VIII & Bloody Mary too! they have problems! I feel like i have giving enough information on Act I , i'm really starting to like this play because it's mind catching; because i know it has caught my mind! With all this drama who wouldn't like this?

The Renaissance

If I was living back then i would have thanked God! I mean the plague was a serious life taker and many people died! and if I was one out of every three people who didn't die i would try to enjoy every momment of my life.
The Renaissance post was crazy! what stuck out the most to me is the stuff about King Henry VIII killing off his wives because they all had little girls! That was insane! It seem like he was ready to die or something!!! I mean things happen for a reason. And I wonder if he would have just waited until his first wife had a little boy... but the events happend, but things got better for them either or, oh yeah one of his wives made it thank God! ha-ha! I also thought that it was cool that your family is some kin to apart of history! sometimes i wonder if i ever had royalty in my family but enough about me...
Bloody Mary is also insane daughter like father! by her wanting to kill off all the protestants that she could get her hands on. She would excute them or burned them alive, that was just crazy! She died and her sis came and made things right! She made everything right by restoring the church. At this time Elizabeth was queen! She loved art; people also believed that she wrote alot of stuff for Shakespeare's plays. I mean if this is so, atleast he let a WOMAN put her two cents in.
Over it all i think that this whole era was kind of crazy and disfunctional, because so much crap went down, rumors and truths it's mind blowing!

The Middle Ages!

The Crusades- I’ve heard of the Crusades before but, I cant remember where. By reading this passage I can tell it was a big factor during the medieval times, they mentioned that there was a Third Crusade. So I guess that means there were two before the 3rd. They were fighting “heathens” and heathens to me mean sinners. I also picked up that the Muslims and Christians were beefing, and I didn’t know that the Muslims existed back then, but I know now.
The Martyrdom of Thomas a Becket- In this time all the Christians belonged to one church, wow!; and this church was the church of Rome. Henry was the head of the church and the representative of God, he must have been praised by his people some what like God??? And when his knight murdered his friend that showed me that, he had the upper hand when he wasn’t even serious. That was crazy! The Monk really wowed me!, because I always thought Monks are, and were all about nature and life; but he was living with another mind set.
Magna Carta- Was about a king changing certain rights. I had to go get more info on the Magna Carta. Now I understand that it was based on laws and different rights that citizens wanted.
The Hundred Years War- England against France, and it was fought on the continent. This war lasted for 116yrs. I can’t believe that they have had a war that long. I hope the war that we are in now don’t last that long. During the war they used this weapon called the yard-long arrows, that actually ignored the armor the Knights had on, meaning they still got hurt even if they had on armor.
The Black Death- I know a little about the Black Death, from what I know the rats had fleas and the fleas where biting people and making them sick; but by reading the passage I found out that this plague reduced the nations population by a third. I didn’t know that.
Caterbury Tales

The Knight- was a very strong , smart, sweet person. He didn’t start or never started anything negative with anyone, but he would finish it. Even if he was strong and good at war he was still a gentleman. *“ Though so strong and brave, he was very wise and of temper as meekly as a maid.” If he’s talking about a cleaning maid they have good patience, and I feel he dose too!
The Squire- was young age 20. He had nice hair. He was active, he had good strength. The Squire wanted to be with this lady so bad; that she has him, getting well dressed, singing songs&, dancing. *“He was as fresh as is the month of May. Short was his gown, with sleeves both long and wide“. I see it as if not only was his hair, and face together for the girl, his sprit and mind was too! I think he may be in love.
The Yeoman- sounds like a hunter or maybe a super hero. *“ he bore a horn, the baldric all of green; a forester he truly was, I guess”. Then it seems like he’s making fun of the Yeoman when he say’s he *“guess” ( ha-ha) I mean he really sounds like he’s a hunter or he maybe ready for war.
The Prioress- was a Nun, her real name is Madam Eglantine, she could sing, she had good manners. *“At the table her manners were well taught withal, and never let morsels from her lips fall, nor dipped her fingers deep in sauce” ex… Her moral sense got the best of her. She really cares about animals. Then he seems like he’s roasting again because he starts talking about her forehead (ha-ha).
The Monk- enjoyed hunting ; I was like what??? The reason why I am so amazed is because, Monks to ma are men who worship nature, and wanted to keep peace. He’s sitting here killing animals and things. What’s peaceful about that? I also thought Monks just wore this dress looking thing and had ball heads but no this Monk had on fancy stuff. * “ I saw his sleeves were made with fur at the hand with fine grey fur, the finest in the land”.
The Friar- Hubert the friar is some what like a lord or like a pope. * “ But he was like a lord or like a pope”. but before I got to the end of this tale I felt like he had that whole definition about him the reason I say this is because “ for his power of confession met no equality” I seen this as that he had people actually coming up to him confessing.
The Merchant- I don’t know his story teller can’t recall it (ha-ha). But what I do know is that if this man didn’t do anything else right he knew how to boast about what he’s done! *“ stressing the times when he had won, not lost”.
The Clerk- wanted to become a teacher. He didn’t have much money he barrowed money to attend school that his friends would lend him. “ and then he’d pray diligently for the souls of those who gave him resources to attend school. *”and then he’d pray diligently for the souls of those who gave him resources to attend schools”.
The Franklin- I really didn’t get what he was trying to get at with this tale, but I picked up that the man was wealthy and old. *“white was his beard as is the white daisy”. my proof of him being wealthy. *“ his house was never short of food and drink”. He liked wine a lot! * “ loved to dip his morning bread in wine”.
The Physician- He was a doctor and a very good one.* “ a doctor of medicine in all this world there was none like him” He cared about people and saved a lot of people too! But I picked up that he liked to have money well gold. * “ since gold in physic is a cordial, therefore he loved his gold exceeding all”.
The Wife of Bath- the story teller really have a lot of jokes, he just keep roasting this poor woman on the side. When he was talking about her hair weave, I found it funny because I wear weave and it is heavy but he said * “ her head-dresses were of finest weave and ground, I dare swear that they weighed about ten pound which, on a Sunday, she wore on her head” and then he was talking about her gap I found this tale to be very funny!
The Parson- was a holy man. He didn’t have much money , well he was poor, but it didn’t matter because he was rich in sprit. * “ he was a country parson, but rich he was in holy thought and work.” I’m thinking maybe he was a preacher or something. * “ in sickness, or in sin, or any state, to visit the farthest, regardless their financial state”.
The Miller- was a very strong man. * “ he lifted each door from its hinges, that easy or break it though, by running, with his head”. That’s the only thing I’ve picked up from this tale.
The Reeve- was a tall guy. He would look after stuff for his lord and do a very good job at it. * “ he knew well how to please his lord subtly, by giving him, or lending, of his own goods”. He had a very good horse name Scot.
The Pardoner- this man could sing he had a very nice voice, * “ added a strong bass to his song; No horn ever sounded half so strong” but when he talked ( ha-ha) the story teller said he sounded like a goat (ha-ha) * “ a voice he had that sounded like a goat” His voice was so good that people would pay him to sing also. * “ to gain some silver, preferably from the crowd; therefore he sang so merrily and so loud”.
The Wife of Bath’s Tale
I decided to read The Wife Of Bath’s Tale. The Wife of Bath thinks she knows a lot about relations you know like between women and men. At the beginning she tells how she has experience, so she is qualified to tell him the facts on women and out true desire’s. She’s the one that ends up giving him the answer.
The reason this Knight seeks for this answer is because, he did a crime, so the queen punished him and said that she would not kill him, if he finds out what women wanted. And if he fail to answer her right he would die! He came back from his quest with the answer he said “ A woman wants the self same-same sovereignty Over her husband as over her husband as over her lover And master him; he must not be above her. That is your greatest wish, whether you kill Or spare me; please yourself, I wait your will.”
And when the Knight said this I was like he Is so right! And then the other women that heard him did not think twice about what he said and I didn’t either!, but I kind of think he should still be punished! But hey it’s just a story. I really liked this story. I wished they would have a made one asking what men really wanted ha-ha.
The Lit I’ve read relates to the middle ages in like the time setting is the only thing that has me saying it’s middle age related, but the fact that the king gave the punishment decision to the queen is kind of mind wrecking I didn’t know that he would have gave her that power to decide his fate, but he did. “ but that the queen, and other ladies too, implored the king to exercise his grace so ceaselessly, he gave the queen the case And granted her his life, and she could choose Whether to show him mercy or refuse”
I was like what the king is letting the queen decide??? But like I said over all the whole story is wonderful!

jessica wymbs beowulf 2

Beowulf Jessica Wymbs , Aug 19TH 07”

The story of Beowulf , was very mind catching! I mean at first I thought I wasn’t going to like it by it being so long and all; I ended up liking it anyways. The writer really spent a lot of time and detail into this poem; and you know some poems aren’t even that long; well this one is, but It was worth reading.
The parts that stuck out to me the most was like how the story has a lot of detail, like when “Grendel Attacks“; Grendel came in so strong ! And that’s what made me want to read on! Grendel killed so many people and it was like he was doing it for fun. Grendel did this for 12yrs! He had people singing songs about how he was so evil and nobody could stop him. I was like wow, and it made me think about religion and all; and then he took his place in the temple a.k.a the Hall wow!; I was thinking this character is bad, but it made me want to see what was going to happen.
This story and Anglo-Saxons to me relates together as in religion wise! Because they are God fearing, wars and fights, invasions and all! They really do relate!
1. Anglo- Saxon= “Alfred's success as well as the spread of Christianity”
2. Beowulf= They thanked God for an easy trip.
3. Episode 5 the speeches= "For this sight I givethanks to the Almighty.I have suffered muchfrom Grendel's scourge.God, the glorious protector, works wonder after wonder.Only yesterday I expectedthese woes would never end--this best of housesstood shining in bloodand all my wise ones saidwe could never protect the people and landfrom the work of demonsand evil spirits. Nowa warrior, through God's might, has performed a deed we,in our wisdom, could not contrive. The woman who bore you,Beowulf, if she yet lives, may say the Eternal Makerwas kind in her child bearing. Now, Beowulf, best of warriors,I love you as a son:have from this momenta new kinship. Nor will there be any lack of earthly things I have power over.Often I have given giftsto a lesser warrior, weakerin fighting. You have, byyour deeds, achieved fameforever. May God repay youalways as He has just now!"
And he’s referring to the ways of God.
The reason I picked the three is because I really think both of the stories has a Christian like feel to them like, they are or could be a story in or from the Bible.
Beowulf is a hero who slays the monster (demon) Gendel and his mom the mermaid; but before them he slayed many other things. He was well known for being the best, and lost but won his last fight with the dragon. Even if he died he saved a lot of people the pain by also killing the dragon.
Beowulf is like every other hero they have their strengths and their weaknesses! It’s like the saying “ all good things must come to an end” . In this case that’s what happened. The intro the author gave to him , is what every hero has to have! “ he was the strongest of menalive in that day, mighty and noble.” That right there let’s you know that he has the upper hand.
I would love to compare Beowulf to the super hero Batman. Yeah that’s what I was going to compare him to but, if you really think about it no one really can compare to him; and I got kind of lost because I was about to compare Beowulf to Batman but, Beowulf has super natural powers, like for example when he killed Gendel mother under water. (what!??) under water? How in the world could he breathe under there that long?; then I was like he has to have super natural powers or something. The reason I feel like he can’t be compared to any of, our modern hero’s is because none of them die, yeah they have weaknesses and all but, they never die from them. I also notice that Beowulf has a comic book feel to it, if you think about it! Yes it’s a poem but if you add the pictures and details you would have a wonderful comic book!
When Beowulf dies wow! I wasn’t expecting it to happen!, but like I said all good things must come to an end. I also see it as if he won, because he saved a lot of people for killing the dragon because the dragon was burning up everything in it’s path, just think if Beowulf would have only died and not the dragon it would have been more pain!
His people; of course they took it hard, because he was their hero!, what are they going to do now without him?
The funeral was a funeral, who likes a funeral? Not me! But his people was very sadden by the fact their hero was gone. When I first read this I thought Beowulf was going to rein forever because he was so mighty but, again I say “all good things must come to an end”
Above it all I liked the story very much!
